Class X student stabbed to death on school premises in Koraput

Jayapur: A Class 10 student was allegedly stabbed to death on the premises of Bariniput Project High School near Jayapur (formerly Jeypore) town in Koraput district on Friday, sending shockwaves through the local community. The deceased has been identified as Mahes Bagh.

Bagh was rushed to a nearby private hospital after the attack but succumbed to his injuries during treatment. The incident occurred during the school’s midday lunch break. An alumnus of the school, identified as Rajkumar, who reportedly passed out from the institution last year, allegedly came to Mahes’ classroom and called him outside.

Soon after, Mahes was allegedly attacked with a knife. Authorities suspect the assault may have been linked to previous enmity, although police said the exact motive will be established only after a detailed investigation.

The brutal incident triggered panic among students and staff, while scenes of grief unfolded at the hospital as the victim’s family members broke down after learning of his death.

The school’s headmaster said the institution has 383 students from Classes I to X, including 32 students in Class 10. He confirmed that the attack took place during the lunch break. Describing the victim, the headmaster said Mahes was a bright student. He also confirmed that the accused had passed out from the same school last year.

Mahes’ father Murali Bagh, who works at a local shop, said, “After receiving information about the incident, I immediately rushed to the hospital. We have lost our son,” he said.

SDPO Archita Mittal and personnel from Sadar Police Station reached the hospital and launched an investigation. Police are examining all possible angles, including the suspected previous rivalry, and are working to ascertain the exact circumstances that led to the fatal attack.
