Bhubaneswar: Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers Federation (OMFED) is set to diversify its product portfolio with the launch of packaged drinking water and a revamped range of ice creams in different flavours, Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Minister Gokulananda Mallik said.
Speaking about the upcoming products, Mallik said discussions are currently underway with the OMFED board. The new products will be introduced in the market after receiving the board’s approval.
The minister also spoke about the quality of OMFED milk amid reports of adulteration involving milk, chhena (cottage cheese) and paneer in different parts of the state.
Mallik said OMFED maintains strict quality standards and its milk undergoes a three-tier checking process. He said parameters such as fat content are checked to ensure quality and claimed that adulteration is not allowed. “If any adulteration is detected, action is taken,” the minister said.
Mallik also said the procurement price of OMFED milk has been increased by Rs 2. According to him, the price revision is aimed at ensuring better returns to dairy farmers and helping them become more self-reliant.
The proposed launch of packaged drinking water and new ice cream variants is expected to further expand OMFED’s presence in the consumer market.
