Bhubaneswar: Unidentified intruders allegedly broke into the official residence of senior IAS officer Bishnupada Sethi in Forest Park area here and stole a diamond ring, gold ornaments and cash.
The Commissionerate Police launched an investigation into the theft following a complaint lodged by the bureaucrat’s family. The burglary came to light when police officers visited his house on Sunday, as part of the ongoing probe. What is shocking is the suspected burglary occurred close to the official residence of Police Commissioner S Dev Datta Singh.
Sethi’s wife filed a complaint at the Capital police station about the theft suspected to have taken place between 12.30 am and 9 am on Friday. In her FIR, she reported a handbag containing cash, two gold earrings and a diamond ring were missing. During investigation, police observed that none of the family members noticed the suspected break-in despite being present inside the house.
“We have filed a case of house trespass and theft. The window of one of the rooms was open, though the family was in another part of the house,” an officer at Capital police station said. He added that the complainant suspects that the burglary occurred in the early hours of Friday.
Sethi’s wife Vaishali later found her handbag containing documents and debit cards thrown near the boundary wall. Police are questioning the watchman and reviewing footage of the CCTV cameras, as part of the ongoing investigation.
