Kendrapada: The political controversy surrounding the arrest of Tikhiri Sarpanch Chameli Ojha in Kendrapada district continues to intensify. A delegation of the BJD met the district Collector and Superintendent of Police (SP) over the issue on Sunday, demanding a fair investigation and action on the complaints lodged by the Sarpanch.
The BJD delegation, comprising MLA Ganeshwar Behera, party leader Ipsita Sahu, and other members, submitted a four-point memorandum to Collector Raghuram R Iyer. The party questioned why no investigation or action had been initiated based on the FIR filed by Chameli Ojha.
The delegation alleged that the concerns raised by the Sarpanch had not received due attention and sought a thorough probe into the matter. They urged the district administration to ensure impartiality and take appropriate steps in accordance with the law.
“We met the Kendrapara Collector and SP and submitted a four-point memorandum. The incident has disturbed the people of Odisha. In a bid to prove their innocence, the police edited a video and released it to the media. When Chameli came to the BDO’s office, she was completely healthy. However, various spots were found on her body at the hospital. Where did these spots come from? Why has no action been taken so far on the FIR filed by Chameli?, asked BJD leader Ipsita Sahu.
Responding to the demands, the Kendrapara Collector said that the Superintendent of Police would examine the issues and conduct an inquiry into the matter. “Some women leaders of the BJD and an MLA have submitted a memorandum, urging an inquiry into the matter. They also requested that Chameli be shifted from the District Headquarters Hospital. However, Chameli is currently undergoing treatment there as per her own wish. The SP will examine the issues and conduct an inquiry into the matter,” said the Collector.
