10 Andhra fishermen rescued off Odisha coast after boat snag

Puri: Ten fishermen from Andhra Pradesh were rescued after their fishing boat developed a technical snag and got stranded off the Odisha coast near Puri Sunday.

According to information, the vessel had set sail from Kakinada Fishing Harbour for a routine fishing trip when it reportedly suffered an engine failure at sea.

While the engine of the vessel became inoperative, its anchor also failed to function, causing it to drift about 2–3 kilometres off the coast near a hotel in Puri, sources said.

After receiving information about the stranded boat, the Superintendent of Police ordered immediate rescue measures. Police teams from Baliapanda Police Station and Penthakata Marine Police coordinated the operation and established contact with fishing boats operating in the vicinity.

After being contacted, a fishing vessel from Visakhapatnam reached the location and rescued all ten fishermen safely.

Police said all the rescued fishermen were safe and were later sent back to their native village. The fishermen are residents of Chintapalli village in Andhra Pradesh’s Vizianagaram district. Arrangements would be made to tow the disabled fishing vessel to a safe location.
