Sex racket involving Bangla girls busted, couple arrested
Bhubaneswar: The Special Task Force of Crime Branch arrested a couple allegedly involved in running a sex racket in Bhubaneswar and rescued six Bangladeshi women on Tuesday.
The Crime Branch arrested Sheikh Ibrahim and his wife Anjali aka ‘Didi’ from Danagohiri under Pipili police limits. They were the mastermind of the sex racket that was running from a rented accommodation at Ratha Road in Old Town area.
According to reports, the sex racket came to light after a Bangladeshi girl had lodged rape bid complaint against the manager of a hotel and another staff.
The girl, in her complaint, had stated that she has been engaged in the flesh trade. However, the police came to know that her identity was fake and she hails from Bangladesh. During interrogation, she revealed that Anjali Bibi had brought her to Odisha via Kolkata through fake passport and identity card and engaged her in the illicit trade here. The girl was later arrested and sent to a short-stay home.
After eliciting more information, police launched a manhunt to nab the kingpin of the sex racket. After receiving inputs on the whereabouts of Anjali Bibi, a team of STF conducted a raid and arrested the couple from Pipili on Tuesday.
The police also rescued six girls from the Old Town area here. They were staying at the rented accommodation by claiming to be nurses and tailors. During night hours, they were being sent to customers as per the deal cracked by the couple.
