Setting an example, COVID warriors cremate bodies
Bhubaneswar: At a time when some family members are showing reluctance in cremating the bodies of their relatives who die due to COVID-19, a designated team of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has come forward to cremate the bodies in accordance with the standard operating procedure (SOP).
The COVID Warriors of BMC have so far helped in cremating 161 bodies. The team is receiving, transporting and conducting cremation of the bodies in conformity with the COVID-19 Dead Body Management Guidelines issued by the Government of India. This is done in consultation with the family members of the deceased free of cost.
Purandar Nanda, Deputy Commissioner of BMC, is leading the cremation team. The team also includes a medical officer from Capital Hospital, an engineer from BMC, representative of IIC of Kharavel Nagar and representatives from other police stations from where the death is reported. Deputy Commissioner, BMC, Srimanta Mishra, is the Supervising Official.
