Schools with less strength to be shut, students to get travel allowance
Bhubaneswar: Odisha Government has decided to shut down schools with student strength of less than 10. This was stated by School and Mass Education (S&ME) Minister Samir Dash. The State Government has identified 966 schools across Odisha with less student strength.
Besides, students of the schools to be shut down will be shifted to nearby schools located within 1 km radius of the old school. The students will also be provided travel expense to help them reach their respective schools. The cash amount will be given to the parents for 10 months in a year, the Minister said.
While school students having more than 75 per cent attendance will get Rs 600 as travel expense per month, Rs 400 per month will be given to students with 50-75 per cent attendance, Dash said.
Similarly, Rs 300 transport cost will be provided to students whose attendance rate stands between 30 and 50 per cent, the Minister added.
