Plus II students demand cancellation of their annual exam
Bhubaneswar: The students of Plus II on Thursday held a demonstration at Lower PMG Square demanding the cancellation of their annual examination in view of the surge in Covid positive cases in Odisha. The Plus II students held demonstrations after Class X students held similar demonstrations near Naveen Nivas two days ago following which the annual Board exam was cancelled.
Odisha Government on Wednesday cancelled the annual Class X examination being conducted by Board of Secondary Education, Odisha and all examinations of Odisha State Board of Madrasa Education after the students held demonstrations. The Class X examination was scheduled to be held from May 3 next and all examinations of Odisha State Board of Madrasa Education were scheduled to be held from May 19.
Odisha Government had on April 15 postponed the Board exam of Class X conducted by BSE, Odisha and Plus II exam conducted by CHSE keeping in view the health concerns of the students following an upsurge in Covid cases in the State. The State Government said a final decision on conducting the examinations would be taken in June after the Covid situation improves and after giving adequate time to students.
The Plus II students on Thursday argued that if the Government cancelled the Class X Board exam, then why not theirs. They demanded that the Government should cancel Plus II exam scheduled to be held from May 18 to help the students take a decision on their career.
School and Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Dash advised the students to keep studying till the Government takes a final decision on the issue. He said Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has already announced to take a decision on the issue in June after reviewing the situation.
