Odisha reports 3rd COVID-19 death; cases rise to 377; migrants escape from train after pulling chain
Bhubaneswar: Odisha has reported its third COVID-19 death as a person from Ganjam district succumbed to the disease, said the Health department on Sunday.
The State also registered a major surge in the number of cases as 83 more persons tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours taking the total number of positive cases to 377. Coronavirus has spread its tentacles across 21 districts of the State.
Angul reported a total of 15 cases for the first time on Sunday. Boudh too reported its three maiden cases and two cases were reported in Puri after a gap of nearly five weeks.
Five more COVID-19 cases were detected in Jajpur district and six from Bhadrak district.
The returnees are increasing the positive numbers in the State. Among the 58 positive cases reported earlier in the day, 41 persons had returned from Surat.
According to the Health department, 29 new cases were reported from Ganjam district and 15 from Balasore. Mayurbhanj reported one positive case.
Last month, Odisha had reported two COVID-19 deaths in Bhubaneswar.
Meanwhile, at least 20 Odisha migrants reportedly tried to escape from a ‘Shramik Special’ train near Majhika Shiva Mandir in Angul after pulling the chain. However, locals caught seven of the migrants and handed them over to police.
As per reports, the ‘Shramik Special’ train was going towards Khurda Road from Ahmedabad carrying Odisha migrants amid the nationwide lockdown.
Though some migrants escaped taking advantage of the darkness, locals spotted seven persons moving suspiciously near the track and caught hold of them. The seven persons admitted they had escaped from the ‘Sharmik Special’ train.
