Odisha registers 81 pc vaccination on first day of immunisation drive
Bhubaneswar: Odisha registered 81 per cent vaccination on the first day of immunisation drive against Covid-19, official sources here said. Out of the targeted 16,314 healthcare workers, 13,292 health workers were inoculated till 6 pm. While Bhadrak district achieved 109 per cent vaccination, highest in the State, Sonepur reported the lowest 51 per cent vaccination.
Koraput reported 105 per cent vaccination followed by Angul, Balasore and Kandhamal which have recorded 100 per cent vaccination. Bargarh, Boudh, Gajapati and Kendrapara districts recorded more than 90 per cent vaccination.
The vaccination drive was conducted smoothly at 161 vaccination sites spread over 30 districts of the State and no reports of any side effect of the beneficiaries inoculated on Saturday were reported from anywhere. After getting the shots, everyone said the vaccine was painless and safe and appealed to others to get immunised without any fear.
Prominent among the persons who received the vaccine on Saturday were Odisha Director of Medical Education and Training C B K Mohanty, AIIMS Bhubaneswar Director Gitanjali Batabane, KIIMS Director P K Patnaik, Head of Medicine department of SCB Medical College and Hospital Jayant Kumar Panda, Capital Hospital Director Laxmidhar Sahoo, and SUM Hospital Director Ashok Mohapatra.
In Odisha, 3.28 lakh health workers have been identified for inoculation in the first phase of vaccination. The first phase of vaccination is targeted to be completed by January 25.
