Odisha logs 1,833 new Covid cases, 67 fatalities
Bhubaneswar: The Covid tally in Odisha on Sunday surged to 9,67,548 with fresh 1,833 infections and the toll rose to 5,512 with 67 more people succumbing to the virus in the past 24 hours.
For the fifth consecutive day, the daily Covid load in the State remained below 2,000 as 1,062 new cases were reported from the quarantine centres and 771 as local contact cases from all the 30 districts in the past 24 hours.
At least five districts — Khurda, Cuttack, Balasore, Jajpur and Puri — have reported more than 100 cases and together accounted for over 60 per cent of the total positive cases in the State. Khurda recorded the highest number of 490 new infections in the past 24 hours followed by Cuttack (243), Puri (139), Balasore (129) and Jajpur (110).
For the first time during the second wave of the pandemic, no single-day infections were reported from Boudh and Nuapada districts, an official said.
Out of 67 fatalities reported in the State in the past 24 hours, Khurda district alone registered 24 deaths followed by 10 each in Angul and Keonjhar, six in Sonepur and five in Puri district. For the first time after a gap of over 100 days, all the 30 districts in the State reported Test Positivity Rate (TPR) below 5 per cent. Cuttack district registered the highest TPR of 4.8 per cent, while Nabarangpur reported the lowest TPR of 0.1 per cent. As many as 10 districts in the State reported TPR of less than 1 per cent.
The active cases in the State further reduced to 18,914. Khurda district recorded the highest active cases of 4,672, followed by Cuttack (2,524), Balasore (1,384) and Jajpur (1,287). These four coastal Odisha districts together accounted for 9,867 active cases, registering over 52 per cent of the total active cases in the State.
Sources said 1,865 more patients recovered in the State on Saturday taking the total recoveries in the State to 9,43,069.
