Odisha Congress on warpath over alleged BJD-Golden Baba link
Bhubaneswar: Alleging links between BJD leaders and arrested ‘conman’ Jyoti Ranjan Beura alias ‘Golden Baba, Chhatra Congress, the student wing of the Congress in Odisha today scuffled with the police while the latter was trying to gherao Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s residence here.
As per sources, hundreds of Congress activists staged a dharna and marched towards Naveen Niwas to raise the protest alleging nexus between city mayor Ananta Narayan Jena and Beura,
But tension erupted after members of the party scuffled with the police while trying to barge into the barricade set up for containing law and order situation.
Several activists of the party also threw eggs and tomatoes towards the police personnel and were later taken into preventive custody by the police.
The Congress activists also burnt the effigies and posters of several BJD leaders including Chief Minister and BJD chief Naveen Patnaik, ministers- Debi Mishra, Ashok Panda, mayor and other leaders.
Beura was arrested by Commissionerate Police on December 31 in connection with a cheque fraud case. The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the State Crime Branch on January 4 took up the case pertaining to several financial transactions and fraud registered against him in various police stations.
