Odisha BJP MLAs want MLA fund utilised for better Covid management
Bhubaneswar: Odisha BJP MLAs on Wednesday demanded amendments to the guidelines for utilisation of MLA Local Area Development fund for creating infrastructure to provide better medicare to people during Covid pandemic.
An amendment to the MLA LAD Fund is required keeping in view the present healthcare scenario, Opposition Chief Whip Mohan Majhi said. The guidelines must be changed to utilise the MLA LAD fund for creating infrastructure for Covid management in the State, he said. At present, the existing guideline has the provision to utilise MLA LAD fund for procuring masks, gloves and PPE kits.
In separate but similar letters to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Assembly Speaker Surya Narayan Patro, the BJP MLAs said provisions should be made in the guidelines for spending MLA LAD fund for setting up isolation rooms, special Covid rooms for children, oxygenated and ventilator beds, procure ambulances and medical equipment required for Covid testing and treatment in all Sub-Divisional Hospitals, CHC, PHC and sub-centres.
The BJP leaders said though the experts apprehend a possible third wave, the Government has not yet developed the required infrastructure in all healthcare facilities to handle the possible threat.
Among others, Mukesh Mahalinga, Nauri Nayak, Lalitendu Bidyadhar Mohapatra, Subash Panigrahi and Kusum Tete signed the letter.
