Naveen hails outstanding achievement by exporters of Odisha
Bhubaneswar: Despite the adverse situation caused by Covid-19 pandemic, export from Odisha up to November has registered 55 per cent increase over the export value corresponding to the same period in the last financial year.
Inaugurating the State Export Award ceremony on Friday, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said this is an outstanding achievement by the exporters of Odisha despite global recession and stiff international competition.
Naveen congratulated the exporting community of the State for the remarkable feat and hoped that this upward trend will continue in the coming years. The Chief Minister said there are many local MSME products which have the potential to compete in the global market. “Time is not far when the departmental stores in Europe and America will be studded with products made by our Women Self-Help Groups from Kalahandi, Kandhamal and Malkangiri,” he said.
Naveen said the quality of products is an essential factor for boosting export. “We must think of world class standard while considering the quality aspect of a product or a service,” he said. The Chief Minister said export plays a vital role in the economic growth of any State. Odisha has a magnificent history of overseas trade and commerce. “The legends of Sadhab Pua of Kalinga venturing into overseas markets to promote our merchandise continue to inspire us to regain our past glory,” he said.
Naveen said the State Government is striving to create a conducive atmosphere to promote export through greater use of doing business, implementation of 5T mechanism, infrastructure support and facilities for quality standardisation. “Odisha is among the top five States in the Export Preparedness Index (EPI) 2020 released by Niti Aayog. The efforts of the State to promote exports are paying off in boosting our export turnover consistently,” Naveen said.
Speaking on the occasion, Industry and MSME Minister Dibya Shankar Mishra said Odisha has excellent potential to become a major exporting State in the country because of its natural resources, locations and advantages.
