Minor boy run over by SUV in Sambalpur
Sambalpur: Tension prevailed in Town Police Station area of Sambalpur after an eight-year-old boy was run over by an SUV near Ashapali School on Saturday. The irate family members and the people of the locality gathered at the Town Police station and demanded stringent action against the man driving the SUV.
Sources said the accident took place while Sahil, the boy, was crossing the road near Ashapali School, in the heart of the city. The high speed SUV, which was coming from Ainthapali, ran over the boy. The locals rushed Sahil to the District Headquarters Hospital. However, Sahil died while undergoing treatment.
Tension erupted after the news of the death of Sahil spread like wildfire. The locals alleged that reckless driving was the cause of the accident. They gathered at the Town Police station demanding stringent action against the driver.
Considering the tense situation, adequate police personnel were deployed at the Town Police station to check any untoward incident. The locals withdrew the agitation after Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Sadar, Tapan Mohanty said a man has already been detained in connection with the incident and the SUV has been seized.
