Maoist cadre lynched by villagers in Malkangiri
Malkangiri: A Maoist cadre was stoned to death allegedly by some locals of Janturai village under Papermetla police limits in Malkangiri district late last night. The deceased Maoist was identified as Adma, a member of the Gumma area committee, police said.
Two Maoists came to Janturai village and tried to terrorise the residents with blank firing in order to force them to stop road construction work. They even threatened them not to celebrate Republic Day.
However, the threat angered the locals and they started pelting stones at the Maoists. One of the Maoists was killed and the other was seriously injured. He was later arrested.
Sources said the villagers had been opposing violent activities of the Maoists in the region over the construction of roads.
The Maoists were taken by surprise by the sudden retaliation by the people. The security forces rushed to the village to take stock of the situation. Security is being beefed up in the village as there is possibility of Maoists launching a counter attack on villagers.
