Performance Of Overstaying Officers To Be Reviewed: New Police Commissioner Of Bhubaneswar-Cuttack

Bhubaneswar: A day after assuming office, Police Commissioner of Bhubaneswar-Cuttack S Debadatta Singh was on action mode on Tuesday. He made it clear that performance is one of the key criteria for police officials posted in the twin-cities.

Hinting at action against police personnel who fail to perform, Singh told reporters that a thorough review of the overstaying officers at a particular place will also be conducted.

He said the Odisha government has given clear instructions that all people should be able to get round-the-clock assistance and justice from the police force. Staff are present at police stations 24 hours a day as emergency situation can surface at any time, the police commissioner said.

“I will conduct a review and find out how long the officers are posted at a particular place and also requirement of the force. Appropriate steps will be taken after a thorough review,” he said.

Stressing that performance is among the important criteria, the police commissioner said honesty, integrity and delivering justice to people are also expected from the officers.

Regarding installation of CCTV in police stations, Singh said the process of installing CCTV cameras had started as per Supreme Court orders in the state. However, after the construction of new police stations, we have to depend on the agencies installing those to remove and re-install the old equipment, he said.

Steps have been taken to prepare a list of existing CCTV cameras at police stations, strategic locations and how many of them are functional, said Singh.
