Bhubaneswar: The Indian Navy is all set to put on a grand show and demonstrate its formidable maritime might, capabilities, and operational strength on the sea along the Blue Flag Beach of Puri in Odisha on the occasion of Navy Day on December 4.
The day commemorates the Indian Navy’s triumph in the 1971 Indo-Pak war, showcases the Navy’s multifaceted competencies, enhances maritime awareness among citizens, and honours India’s rich seafaring heritage.
This year’s Navy Day theme is 2024 ‘Operational Demonstration’ or ‘Op Demo’ and symbolizes the connection between the Indian Navy and the maritime legacy of Odisha. On the occasion, at least 24 warships and 40 aircrafts including helicopters and fighter jets will demonstrate the Navy’s maritime capabilities through water and aerial maneuvers.
This will be the first-ever Navy Day celebrations in Puri in the presence of thousands of spectators, tourists and guests. The event will be one of its kind and is expected to be held between 4pm and 6:30pm and culminate with a spectacular laser show.
The Indian Navy is working closely with the Odisha government and the local authorities to ensure the smooth execution of the event.
Preparations are in full swing as a series of spectacular demonstrations are planned, highlighting both courage and strategic agility of the Indian Navy. Attendees can expect a grand parade featuring naval personnel, underscoring themes of courage and duty.
The East Coast of India is abuzz, with rehearsals painting a vivid picture of naval operations. Imposing ships glide through azure waters, protected by vigilant patrol boats along the coastline. Overhead, helicopters maintain a watchful eye while formidable battle tanks prepare to dazzle spectators with their power.
The entire Puri town is under CCTV surveillance with around 80 platoons of police force along with 300 officers to ensure safety and security of the people. Police is also keeping a close watch on the vehicular movement between Bhubaneswar and Puri to avoid traffic snarls on the highway.
