Cuttack Heritage Walks unveils photo book on Baliyatra

Cuttack: The Cuttack Heritage Walks (CHW) marked a significant milestone by successfully conducting its 68th heritage walk on Sunday. The event, which saw enthusiastic participation of around 30 members, all eager to explore and learn about Cuttack’s rich historical and cultural legacy, also unveiled a photo book on the occasion.

The walk commenced at the iconic Barabati Fort premises, where participants delved into the fort’s fascinating history and heritage, spanning its construction to its evolution over the centuries. Srikant Singh, a CHW member, captivated the audience with his insightful oral presentation, shedding light on the fort’s significance and its unfortunate destruction over the years.

A special highlight of the event was the launch of a photo book titled “Vignettes of Baliyatra”, which chronicles the grand celebration of Baliyatra 2024 through a series of stunning photographs. The photographs were taken by Kishore Bit, while the booklet was beautifully designed by Aditya Prasad Ghosh. Both contributors, also members of CHW, were honored and felicitated for their work.

True to tradition, the heritage walk included a surprise destination. This time, participants were taken to the Raghunath Jew Temple, a historic site dating back to the 14th century. Members explored the temple’s architectural beauty and its storied past, gaining a deeper appreciation for the city’s rich heritage.

The event was thoroughly documented through photographs, videos, and written records, preserving the memorable moments for posterity. The meeting concluded with a light snack session, fostering camaraderie among participants.

Founded in 2019, CHW is a citizen-led initiative aimed at promoting awareness of the city’s history and heritage. Through its walks and activities, CHW continues to inspire a sense of pride and responsibility among citizens to preserve and celebrate Cuttack’s glorious past. The walk was coordinated by CHW convener Dr. Dipak Samantarai.
