Bhubaneswar: In a major success against street crime, the Commissionerate Police arrested eight members of notorious inter-state ‘Pahadi gang’ in Bhubaneswar.
Giving this information, Bhubaneswar Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP Prateek Singh told reporters that the arrested accused persons hail from Jharkhand and West Bengal.
The gang members are active in states like Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha and they keep moving from one place to another to evade police action, he said.
Based on an intelligence input, a team of police personnel conducted a raid at a place in the state capital and apprehended the accused persons. The police have seized 22 mobile phones, Rs. 1,30,000 cash and many sim cards from their possessions, the DCP said.
Regarding the modus operandi adopted by the gang, he said the criminals used to loot passengers in Mo Bus and in other areas of Bhubaneswar. They used to steal the mobile phones from people, hack the UPI and steal money from their bank accounts.
It is worth mentioning that several cases have been registered against these accused persons in the police stations of Odisha and other states.
The gang members get divided into small groups and spread into different parts of Bhubaneswar, Puri, Cuttack etc. & other areas inside & outside Odisha.
Investigation is going on and more people of the gang and their associates are expected to be arrested soon, police said.
