Harassed minor girl dies by suicide, Bhapur ASI suspended
Dhenkanal: Bhapur police outpost Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), Padmanabh Sahu, has been suspended following allegations of police inaction leading to the suicide of a minor girl, who was repeatedly harassed by a youth. This was stated by IG (North-Central Range) Narasingha Bhol.
Sources said the parents of the victim, belonging to Dinabandhupur Chataka Sahi, had lodged a complaint with Bhapur police alleging that one Subash Muduli (28) barged into their house on July 1 when there were no family members and tried to outrage their daughter’s modesty. However, the accused fled the spot after she raised an alarm.
A complaint was filed in this regard on July 6 at Bhapur police outpost under Dhenkanal Sadar area. But, the ASI let the accused go scot-free without taking any action. After this, the accused started harassing and abusing them and also threatened them with dire consequences.
The parents alleged that on July 28, when they had gone to work on the farm, the accused again entered their house and misbehaved with their daughter. Unable to bear the trauma and humiliation, their daughter died by suicide by consuming poison on Wednesday night.
Dhenkanal SP Anupama James said that allegations regarding police inaction will be probed and stern action will be taken against the accused. The accused is absconding.
