Ganja worth Rs 12 lakh seized, 5 arrested
Bhubaneswar: A special squad of Commissionerate Police on Wednesday arrested five persons, including three women, and recovered around 120 kg of ganja worth around Rs 12 lakh from their possession. Police sources said acting on specific information, the special squad conducted the raid at Ghatika under Bharatpur police station and recovered the contraband packed in bags weighing from 1 kg to 10 kg.
Police arrested Kamlesh Yadav, Sushilen Lima, Susilan Lima, all from Bihar, and Sugyani Behera and Kumani Behera from Ganjam, in connection with the incident. The youths from Bihar had engaged the two women to procure ganja from Kandhamal. They were bringing ganja in small quantities in bags in buses and stocking it in the rented house.
The accused were transporting the same from the rented house to different places within the city as well as Bihar and Jharkhand. The women were paid Rs 700 to Rs 800 per consignment. Police have registered a case under NDPS Act.
Brown sugar worth Rs 1.2 lakh seized in Balasore
Balasore: A 30-year-old woman was arrested in Balasore on Wednesday after 12 grams of brown sugar worth Rs 1.2 lakh was seized from her possession, police said. Acting on a tip-off, a team of police personnel raided a house in Aradbazar area and seized the contraband.
During interrogation, the woman admitted that she had plans to sell the brown sugar to a person.
The police also seized unaccounted cash of Rs 2,200 and a mobile phone from her possession.
