Duration of English, Math and Science classes extended
Bhubaneswar: In view of poor performance of school students in English, Mathematics and Science, Odisha Government has decided to increase the duration of classes for the three subjects from 45 minutes to one and a half hours.
School and Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Dash said, “Reviews of the exam result trends have shown that most students who had failed or scored less had recorded poor results in English, Mathematics and Science. “With the new rule coming into effect, students will now have to study the aforesaid mentioned subjects for one and a half hours at a stretch instead of 45 minutes earlier. However, the class duration of other subjects will be of 45 minutes,” said Das.The S&ME Minister said the new move will help students get more time to clear their doubts.
On improving the level of English education, Das said his department has prepared a blueprint to focus more on imparting good quality English education to students right from primary level.
“The project will be implemented from this year on a pilot basis at a selected school in each district. The project will be implemented at block and lower levels from the next academic year,” said Das.
