Digital news channel journalist held for ‘blackmailing, extorting’ money
Six journalist of a digital news channel has been arrested for allegedly extorting money from Alok Padhi and Tofan Barik, the partners of Jyoti traders in Bhubaneswar, informed Bhubaneswar DCP on Monday.
Briefing about the case, the DCP said that the six journalists are working with a web news channel. They forcibly entered inside the firm had extorted money in phases (Rs 99,000 in first installment and later Rs 31,000). They have also assaulted them, ransacked their office and intimitaed them and flee from the spot. They were allegedly blackmailing and threatening to publish illegalities news against the complainant on their website.
Based on a complaint against seven journalists, the Tamando Police had initiated investigation into the matter.
The police have also seized 2 cars and 4 motorcycles and 11 number of mobile phones from their possessions. Further investigation of the case is going on.
