Malkangiri: Death of a local triggered violence near Papermetla police station in Malkangiri district on Monday as locals attacked policemen leaving two of them injured.
One Raju Hantal of Ranganiguda village under Dhuliput panchayat was found dead in an anganwadi kitchen. Family members of the deceased have been alleging that he was abducted and murdered by BSF jawans.
After post-mortem, Raju’s relatives refused to accept the body on Monday. The family members and locals later staged a dharna in front of the police station by placing the body there. They demanded immediate arrest of the accused.
The incident took a violent turn in the afternoon as the agitating locals attacked policemen. They also ransacked a police vehicle.
Raju was found dead inside the kitchen of the anganwadi centre at Jantabai village in Chitrakonda on Sunday. Family members said Raju had gone to a weekly market at Jantabai with his two daughters. Some BSF personnel met him at the market and took him along with them after which he didn’t return home.
