Court grants conditional bail to Pradeep Maharathy
Bhubaneswar: A special court of Additional District & Sessions Judge on Saturday granted conditional bail to Pipili MLA Pradeep Maharathy in connection with attack on a poll flying squad. The bail was granted against sureties of Rs 50,000 and two bailers. The court has laid down conditions for Maharathy not to influence the witnesses and to cooperate with police in investigation.
Earlier in the day, police had submitted the case diary and injury report in the court.
The court had on April 24 deferred the bail plea hearing of Maharathy till April 27.
A day before the third round of polling in Odisha on April 23, Pipili strongman Maharathy was arrested by police for assaulting Static Surveillance Team (SST) at his farm house, which left a magistrate seriously injured.
As per the complaint made by magistrate Rabindra Narayan Patra, the attack on the 15-member squad took place at Maharathy’s farm house at Hunkeipur near Pipli at about 11.30 pm on Sunday. “We got information that money and liquor were being distributed at his farm house to influence voters. We went there to check this,” said Patra, adding that Maharathy himself led the attack on them.
Maharathy fell ill after he was arrested.
