Bird counting in Odisha from tomorrow
Puri: The annual bird census at important forest and wildlife divisions in the State will begin from January 3.
Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) cum Chief Wildlife Warden Sandeep Tripathy today informed that the head counting of birds will begin at the Nandankanan, Similpal and other forest divisions from tomorrow.
While the census of the aviary species will be carried out at Chilika Lake, continent’s largest brackish water lagoon from January 3, the counting will begin from January 6 at Bhitarkanika and Hirakud.
It may be noted that the bird counting is done at 12 different places in the State every year.
Winged guests from far off regions like the Caspian Sea, Lake Baikal, remote parts of Russia, Central and South East Asia, Ladakh and the Himalayas migrate to several wetlands of the State including Chilika for feeding and roosting purposes.
