Ashtadhatu idol stolen from Manikeswari temple in Rayagada
Rayagada: Unidentified miscreants decamped with a precious ashtadhatu idol from Manikeswari temple near Khedapada in Therubali of Rayagada district.
According to sources, the miscreants allegedly broke open the main door of the temple late last night and decamped with the two-and-half-feet high idol along with the jewelries of the presiding deity of the temple.
The matter came to light after priest of the temple witnessed the temple gates wide open with its locks broken apart in the wee hours today when he came to conduct the morning rituals of Goddess Manikeswari.
After the priest informed the matter to the local villagers, the news spread fast and soon a palpable tension broke out in the village.
