Brahmapur: A youth was killed and another sustained serious injuries after they were allegedly attacked by a group of people over previous enmity in Odisha’s Ganjam district.
The incident took place on National Highway-59 near Tatabali under the Sorada police limits. The deceased has been identified as Krishna Gouda of Suramani village, while the injured youth, Rajat Behera, is undergoing treatment.
According to reports, Krishna and Rajat were travelling on a motorcycle when a pickup van coming from the opposite direction hit the two-wheeler near Tatabali. Both fell on the road following the collision. A group of youths then reached the spot and attacked them with sharp weapons.
The attackers fled the scene after the assault. Locals rescued the two injured youths and admitted them to the Sorada Community health Centre. They were later shifted to Berhampur for further treatment. Krishna succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
Police suspect that the attack may have been linked to an earlier dispute during a Ganesh idol immersion procession in Suramani village a few days ago. The incident had led to a clash between some youths, resulting in tension between the two groups.
Sorada police have launched an investigation into the incident.
