Bargarh: The Bargarh town turns into a living stage as the world-famous Dhanu Jatra to begin today evening marking the start of an 11-day cultural spectacle. Recognised as the largest open-air theatre in the world, the festival brings mythology, tradition and performance together in a unique celebration.
With the booming laughter of Maharaja Kansa echoing across the town, Bargarh transforms into the ancient city of Mathura. Streets, palaces and courtyards become live performance spaces, including the Rangamahal and Nanda Raja’s court, where episodes from the life of Lord Krishna unfold.
Unlike conventional theatre, Dhanu Jatra erases the boundary between actors and audience, turning the entire town into a dynamic storytelling canvas.
The grand festival will be formally inaugurated this evening on the world’s largest open-air stage. As night falls, Kansa’s thunderous laughter will reverberate through Mathura, while Vasuki and surrounding areas come alive with dramatic enactments.
Drawing thousands of visitors from across Odisha and beyond, the Bargarh Dhanu Jatra is more than a festival—it is a living celebration of Odisha’s rich cultural heritage and timeless folklore.
