Paralakhemundi: In a tragic incident, two girls died after the boundary wall of a school collapsed while they were playing on the ground at a village in Gajapati district on Wednesday.
As per information, the tragic incident took place at a government upper primary school at Rubudising village under the jurisdiction of R Udayagiri police station.
The deceased have been identified as Iranti Rait (9) and Beklesan Rait (10) of the same village. One of them was a student of Class IV, the other was in Class V.
Sources said the girls were playing inside the school campus when the wall suddenly caved in. Both came under the debris and sustained critical injuries. They succumbed later. Following the incident, a police team from R. Udayagiri Police visited the scene and launched an investigation.
Senior officials, including the Nuagada Block Development Officer (BDO) and the Tehsildar, also reached the spot to assess the situation and oversee immediate response measures. As an interim relief, financial assistance of Rs 20,000 each has been provided to the bereaved families from the Red Cross fund. Authorities have initiated a detailed probe to determine the cause of the wall collapse.
