Two ambulance drivers held for ‘gang rape’ of Bengal woman

Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police have arrested two ambulance drivers for alleged gang rape of a woman from West Bengal in Bhubaneswar’s Tamando area. The accused, identified as Bichitra Sahoo and Narayan Swain of Nayagarh, were taken into custody on Monday.

The incident occurred when the woman, who was visiting her husband in Chandaka, left home after a fight with him. While heading to Bhubaneswar railway station on her own, she was approached by the two men who offered her a lift. However, they allegedly forcibly took her to an abandoned or rented house in Ranasinghpur under Tamando police limits, where she was held hostage, threatened and gangraped. The duo then fled the spot, leaving her in a distressed condition.

The survivor later managed to escape and filed a complaint at Tamando police station. She was immediately taken to a hospital for a medical examination. Police recorded her statement, and a forensic team visited the crime scene to collect evidence, which helped lead to the swift identification and arrest of the duo.
