Tricolour hoisted upside down at Independence Day event in Sundaragada

Sundaragada: An alleged disrespect to the National Flag was reported during the 80th Independence Day celebrations organised by the Subdega block administration at the New Odisha High School playground in Sundaragada (formerly Sundargarh) district on Saturday.

According to reports, the Tricolour was allegedly hoisted upside down during the block-level celebration in the presence of thousands of people. The green band of the flag was reportedly positioned at the top, while the saffron band was placed at the bottom.

The incident occurred during the official Independence Day programme attended by several dignitaries and local residents.

Subdega Panchayat Samiti Chairperson Kunti Pradhan attended the event as the chief guest. Block Development Officer Biswanath Sahu, Panchayat Samiti Vice-Chairperson Sushant Behera and New Odisha High School Headmistress Sabita Patnaik were among the other dignitaries present at the programme.

The alleged mishandling of the National Flag during an official Independence Day ceremony has drawn attention, with questions likely to be raised over the arrangements and procedures followed during the event.
