Bhubaneswar: After a year, Odisha has reported a fresh Covid‑19 case in Ganjam district, raising concerns of possible spread after recent infections in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.
A woman undergoing treatment at MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Bramhapur has tested positive for the virus, according to hospital sources. In May 2025, Odisha had detected seven Covid-19 cases including two of SARS-CoV2 sub-variants.
Officials confirmed that the patient had been admitted for treatment several days earlier and was later identified as COVID‑positive. She is currently receiving care at MKCG. However, no official statement has yet been issued by the State government regarding the case.
The development comes on the heels of Andhra Pradesh reporting 12 infections between June 26 and July 16, with four fatalities linked to the outbreak. The detection of a case in Odisha has heightened public concern, particularly in border districts where vigilance has already been stepped up.
Health experts have urged strict monitoring, especially in hospitals and public spaces, to prevent further transmission. Authorities are expected to intensify testing and surveillance in Ganjam and adjoining districts.
