Koraput: The body of a class-VIII student was recovered from a drain behind a government high school in Odisha’s Koraput district on Wednesday, raising questions over the management of the school hostel.
The deceased student, identified as Gurunath, was a resident of Maliguda village under Haradaguda panchayat. He was studying at Gumuda Government High School in Borigumma block and was staying in the school hostel.
According to the reports, Gurunath had been missing from the school premises since Monday. Shockingly, his body was recovered from an abandoned drain behind the school.
The incident has triggered allegations of negligence against the school authorities. The student’s family has alleged that the school authorities neither informed them about his disappearance nor reported the matter to the police.
Following the recovery of the body, police reached the spot and started an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the student’s death.
Meanwhile, tension prevailed outside the school as family members and locals staged a protest, keeping the student’s body in front of the school. They demanded justice and action against those responsible.
The exact cause of the student’s death is yet to be established. Police are investigating the case.
