Six Odia films to hit theatres during this Dussehra

Bhubaneswar: There is a piece of good news for moviegoers in Odisha as altogether six Odia films are scheduled to hit theatres during this Dussehra.

The increased number of releases, compared to the usual four films in previous years, signals positive momentum for Ollywood and offers movie lovers a wider range of entertainment options, said cine expert Dilip Hali.

With different storylines and cinematic styles, the six films are expected to provide audiences with a diverse viewing experience. The development is being seen as an encouraging sign for the Odia film industry, which is striving to expand its audience base and strengthen its presence in theatres.

However, the growing number of releases also highlights the need to generate greater audience interest in Odia cinema. Local films continue to face stiff competition from Hindi releases, making it challenging for Odia filmmakers to secure a strong foothold in theatres.

“Industry growth will depend not only on the number of films released but also on the quality of storytelling, performances and production. Better content and improved filmmaking standards can help attract more viewers and encourage audiences to choose Odia films over competing releases,” stated Hali.

Another promising development is the prospect of Odia films reaching audiences in other languages. Wider multilingual releases could help Odia cinema gain greater recognition beyond Odisha and introduce its stories and culture to viewers across the country.

The release of six films during this year’s Durga Puja could therefore mark an important opportunity for Ollywood. If the films receive a positive response from audiences, the festive season may help boost the demand for Odia cinema and open up new avenues for the industry’s growth.
