Baleshwar: At least seven people, including six students, were injured after an auto-rickshaw overturned while proceeding for an Independence Day celebration event in Odisha’s Baleshwar district on Saturday.
According to information, more than eight students from Sathi area under Bahanaga block were travelling in a battery-operated auto-rickshaw to attend the Independence Day programme at Sri Maa Aurobindo Purnanga Shiksha Kendra.
The three-wheeler reportedly lost balance and overturned near Sathi Chhak amid heavy rain. Several students and the auto driver sustained injuries in the accident.
Soon after the mishap, local residents rushed to the spot, rescued the injured and admitted them to Soro Hospital for treatment. The auto-rickshaw driver was reported to be in a critical condition. He was subsequently shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital at Baleshwar. Further details are awaited.
