Bhubaneswar: Odisha has begun witnessing reverse migration as young people who had earlier moved to other states in search of employment are now returning to the State amid growing job opportunities, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said on Monday.
Addressing a mega Nijukti Mela at the Rail Auditorium here, Majhi said the State government has accelerated the process of creating employment opportunities through industrial development and is working to ensure that young people can find jobs within Odisha.
“Earlier, due to the lack of industrial infrastructure, people from Odisha used to migrate to other states in search of jobs. Today, the situation has changed. Young people are returning to Odisha from other states. This is reverse migration,” the Chief Minister said.
He said the government has been creating new employment opportunities with a focus on bringing the youth into the workforce. The process of recruitment and employment generation has already begun and would be expanded further in the coming days, he added.
Majhi said the government plans to promote industrial development in every district of Odisha, which would create more local employment opportunities and reduce the need for people to migrate outside the state for work.
“The new government is a government of the people. It has brought new employment opportunities to empower and bring the youth forward,” he said.
At the mega Nijukti Mela, the Chief Minister distributed appointment letters to 1,326 candidates selected for various posts across nine departments. The government has been emphasising employment generation through both public recruitment and industrial investment, with the objective of providing more opportunities for Odisha’s youth within the state.
Majhi said the expansion of industries and employment opportunities would help strengthen the state’s economy while enabling young people to build their careers without having to leave Odisha.
