Prof. Chandi Nanda takes charge as VC of Utkal University

Bhubaneswar: Prof. Chandi Prasad Nanda on Monday assumed charge as the new Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Utkal University.

His appointment comes at a time when focus on strengthening academic standards, promoting global level in research, and ensuring efficient administration of the institution is highly expected to elevate the long-standing legacy of the mother university of the State.

An erudite Professor of History at several institutions of the State and formerly being the Head of Odisha Research Centre, he holds significant experience in higher educational teaching and administration since last three decades. As he is expected to steer the oldest university of Odisha towards academic growth and institutional development, the university fraternity welcomed his appointment with optimism for progressive reforms and new initiatives.

Prof. Nanda visited Jagannath temple within the campus and also paid his reverence at Maa Talapadeswari Temple before he took charge of the varsity from the existing in-charge VC Prof. Jagneshwar Dandapat. Further, he donated blood in the blood donation camp organised by NSS Unit of university as part of celebration of Odia Pakhya.

Later, he interacted with staff members of the institution in his office and stressed upon issues pertaining to enhanced energy-efficiency and sustainability on the campus, application of research and other important aspects related to the university.

He also inaugurated the Odia Khadya Divas ceremony at the BARC Outreach Centre of the university, showcasing multiple authentic cuisines of the Odisha State. Later during the day, Prof. Nanda made a courtesy visit to meet the Governor of the State and the Chancellor of the university along with Registrar Dr. Swati Mishra.

In the evening, a discussion was held with all faculty members, officials and staff of the university wherein preparation of White-paper regarding various pressing issues and future strength for making the campus clean and green was prioritised.
