Puri: Police on Thursday morning conducted raids at several khaja godowns and manufacturing units in different parts of Odisha’s Puri town following repeated complaints that devotees were being sold substandard and adulterated khaja at high prices.
Food Safety Department and Weights and Measures Department were also a part of the raids.
The teams conducted searches at several khaja godowns and factories in areas including Sri Krishna Cinema Lane, Bada Danda, Swargadwar and nearby localities.
During the raids, officials checked the quality of khaja, weighing practices, packaging and food safety licences of the establishments. They also checked whether consumers were being charged more than the prescribed price or being given less quantity.
According to police, adulterated or poor-quality khaja found during the inspections will be seized. Strict action would be taken against traders found violating food safety or other regulations.
