Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated RBI’s greenfield data centre and training institute at Jatni near Odisha capital.
The Rs 170 crore-data centre and cybersecurity training institute has come up at Info Valley-II near Jatni. This is RBI’s second data centre after a similar facility in Mumbai.
The Prime Minister arrived at the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in the capital city in a special aircraft of the India Air Force (IAF) around 4.10 pm.
He reached Jatni in a helicopter and inaugurated the data centre in the presence of Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra.
Odisha Governor Braj Mohan Ram, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram and Deputy Chief Ministers KV Singh Deo and Pravati Parida among other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
“Strengthening India’s digital infrastructure and enhancing cybersecurity preparedness are key to building a secure, resilient and future-ready financial ecosystem,” said the RBI while highlighting the significance of the project.
The facility is spread across 18.55 acres of land. Then RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das had laid foundation stone of the project on March 22, 2023.
“The RBI data centre will benefit the people of Odisha as well as India. Due to the blessings of Lord Jagannath, such a facility has come up in Odisha,” said the Prime Minister.
The site in Info Valley-II was chosen for its geographical stability, away from seismically active zones and high-risk international border areas, reducing exposure to natural disasters and geopolitical vulnerabilities, reports said.
