Kendrapara: In a major goof-up, a pharmacist allegedly administered an anti-rabies injection meant for a dog-bite patient to another patient suffering from chest pain at a primary health facility in Kendrapara district.
The incident occurred at the Karilopatna Primary Health Centre in the district. According to reports, Ananta Jena, a resident of the area, had visited the health centre after experiencing chest pain. At the same time, a dog-bite patient was also present at the facility for treatment.
Pharmacist Sudhir Dalai mistakenly administered the anti-rabies injection to Jena instead of giving it to the dog-bite patient.
Soon after receiving the injection, Jena reportedly developed complications, including dizziness and vomiting. Realising the error, the pharmacist allegedly rushed the patient in his own vehicle to the Kendrapara District Headquarters Hospital for further treatment and later fled the scene.
Meanwhile, the medical officer of the Karilopatna health centre has acknowledged the incident, admitting that it was a mistake. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
