Over 1 crore women to get Subhadra money on August 28: Deputy CM

Bhubaneswar: More than one crore women beneficiaries under the Odisha government’s flagship Subhadra Yojana will receive financial assistance on August 28, coinciding with Raksha Bandhan, Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida said today.

The state-level Subhadra programme will be held in Nayagarh on August 28, where the financial assistance will be disbursed to eligible beneficiaries.

Parida said women whose applications were submitted by August 28 and who meet the eligibility criteria will be considered for the benefit. She also said that eligible beneficiaries who were among the initial applicants could receive multiple pending instalments together, subject to verification and eligibility.

According to the latest figures, 1,15,75,633 applications have been registered under the Subhadra scheme so far. Of these, 3,17,966 fresh applications were received during the 2026-27 financial year.

Following verification and eligibility assessment, 1,02,04,396 women were initially identified as potential beneficiaries for the fifth instalment. However, district administrations subsequently confirmed the deaths of 5,277 beneficiaries and removed their names from the list.

The final number of beneficiaries for the fifth instalment has therefore been revised to 1,01,99,119 women. Under the Subhadra scheme, more than Rs 12,064.86 crore has already been transferred directly to the bank accounts of over one crore women through four instalments.

The scheme is a flagship initiative of the BJP-led Odisha government and was one of the party’s key promises ahead of the 2024 Assembly elections.

Launched on September 17, 2024, Subhadra Yojana aims to provide financial assistance of Rs 50,000 to eligible women between 21 and 60 years of age. The assistance is provided at the rate of Rs 10,000 per year in two instalments. The instalments are scheduled to be credited on International Women’s Day (March 8) and Raksha Bandhan every year.

The upcoming disbursement on August 28 is expected to benefit more than one crore women across Odisha, subject to fulfilment of the scheme’s eligibility conditions and completion of verification.
