Koraput: At least one person died and several others were critically injured after a Volvo bus of the Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) Volvo bus plunged into a deep gorge in the Sunki Ghat area of Koraput district.
As per preliminary information, the bus overturned and fell over 50 feet from the road in the wee hours of Saturday, leaving one passenger dead and more than 20 others injured.
Sources said the bus was travelling from Bhawanipatna to Visakhapatnam when the driver reportedly lost control over the wheels at a sharp turn, following which the bus veered off the road and fell nearly 50 feet into a gorge.
On being informed, Fire Service personnel from Pottangi, Semiliguda, and Jeypore immediately rushed to the scene. The rescue operation was challenging due to the steep and difficult terrain. Firefighters carried out search and rescue using sophisticated equipment, including combi-tools, tower lights, rope lines, stretchers, and other rescue tools.
The injured passengers were rescued and shifted to a nearby hospital in Potangi for medical treatment.
Attendant dead as ambulance crashes into truck
Dhenkanal: An ambulance crashed into a stationary truck on NH-55 near Motanga in Dhenkanal, leaving one attendant dead and the driver critically injured. The accident occurred close to Haladiabahal under Motanga police limits. The ambulance was returning to Angul after dropping a patient in Bhubaneswar when it rammed into the rear of the truck parked by the roadside. The impact left the vehicle mangled, killing the attendant instantly. The deceased has been identified as Gunanidhi Jyotish from Banabasapur in Angul district. The driver sustained severe injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
