Bhubaneswar: Odisha has emerged as the country’s top-performing state in house completion under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Urban (PMAY-U 2.0), marking a significant milestone in affordable urban housing implementation.
Since the launch of PMAY-U 2.0 in September 2024, the state has recorded impressive progress in providing housing to urban beneficiaries, reinforcing its commitment to the national vision of “Housing for All.”
Official sources said Odisha consistently retained the number one position in India in house completion performance from March 2025 to March 2026.
Under the scheme, 24,625 houses have been sanctioned across the state, of which 23,464 proposed sites have already been geo-tagged.
Construction activities have gathered momentum, with foundation work initiated for 3,134 houses and 2,008 houses completed as of May 5, 2026. The remaining houses are at different stages of construction, and the state government remains confident of meeting all targets within the stipulated timeframe.
The achievement highlights the proactive role of the Housing & Urban Development Department, strong coordination with Urban Local Bodies, and effective grassroots-level execution.
Housing & Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra has directed officials to further accelerate construction and ensure that all pending PMAY-U 2.0 targets are achieved ahead of schedule. He stressed timely execution, quality construction, and swift delivery of housing benefits to eligible urban poor families across Odisha.
