Bhubaneswar: Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo chaired a high-level meeting in Bhubaneswar to review power sector reforms, safety measures, and implementation of central and state schemes.
He announced that the PM-Surya Ghar Yojana will be integrated with housing schemes, including the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana (PMAY). Singh Deo said the initiative aims to ensure that every housing beneficiary receives the benefit of solar power. “By linking PM-Surya Ghar with state housing programs, we will provide 24×7 clean and affordable electricity while reducing household bills,” he stated.
Under the scheme, beneficiaries in urban areas will receive a Rs 30,000 subsidy from the Centre and Rs 25,000 from the State for a 1 KW rooftop solar installation, paying only Rs 1,875. The Deputy CM directed DISCOMs to prioritise public safety across urban and rural areas. Key decisions include underground cabling projects worth Rs 3,708 crore across all four DISCOMs, shifting low-hanging wires, installing insulated conductors, fencing substations, and developing a utility shifting portal for better monitoring.
Singh Deo also reviewed the implementation of PM-SGMBY and ULA Model for electrification, covering poles, wiring, and street lights. He emphasised that the government remains committed to providing safe, reliable, and sustainable power to every household in Odisha. “All departments will work in coordination to ensure time-bound execution of safety and infrastructure projects,” he said.
