Bhubaneswar: Odisha showcased its potential as a competitive destination for investments in chemicals, petrochemicals and allied sectors at a roundtable in New Delhi on Wednesday.
The event titled ‘Global CEO Roundtable on India’s Chemicals Sector: Charting the Path to USD 1 Trillion by 2040’ was held at Bharat Mandapam in the national capital.
The roundtable was jointly convened by the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals under the Ministry of Chemicals and the Invest India. Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers JP Nadda chaired the roundtable, which saw a participation of CXO level delegates from more than 30 leading global and Indian chemical companies.
Nadda underlined the need for sustained investment, technology development and stronger domestic manufacturing in the chemicals and petrochemicals sector to achieve the USD 1 trillion vision by 2040.
During the interactions, he also reaffirmed the Central government’s commitment to supporting the development of emerging chemical and petrochemical hubs at Gopalpur and Paradip, complementing the state government’s efforts to strengthen Odisha’s industrial ecosystem.
Speaking on the occasion, Anupriya Patel, the Union Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers, highlighted recent manufacturing reforms and reiterated the government’s intent to act as an active growth partner by reducing administrative burdens and improving long-term investment viability.
Representing Odisha, Industries Department Additional Chief Secretary Hemant Sharma spoke about the state’s opportunities across chemicals, petrochemicals, plastics and allied manufacturing.
He also highlighted Odisha’s long coastline, major ports, large industrial land parcels, feedstock availability and dependable utilities, together with the state’s vision to develop a diversified, chemicals-driven ecosystem based on downstream value addition and employment generation.
Key investment destinations include the PCPIR at Paradip, anchored by the Indian Oil Corporation refinery and petrochemicals complex; the port-based industrial complex at Dhamra; and industrial areas adjoining Gopalpur Port with blanket environmental Clearances, apt for early grounding of red and orange category industries.
Chemicals, petrochemicals and technical textiles are thrust sectors under Odisha’s Industrial Policy Resolution 2022 and qualify for the highest bracket of incentives, said Sharma.
On the sidelines of the event, the Odisha delegation held focused meetings with companies exploring projects in titanium pigments, adhesives, BOPP films and fertilizers.
Discussions covered suitable locations, infrastructure, utilities, incentives and facilitation support, with the state reiterating its commitment to assist investors through project planning, site identification, approvals and implementation.
“Odisha’s participation reflects its sustained outreach to convert investor interest into projects, strengthen downstream and ancillary value chains, and generate employment. Backed by strategic ports, industrial land, reliable utilities and a progressive policy framework, the state is positioning itself as a long-term partner for globally competitive manufacturing in line with the vision of Samruddha Odisha by 2036,” said the Industries Department.
