Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi returned from Mumbai on Friday after a successful two-day participation in India Chem 2026, announcing investment proposals worth Rs 53,893.51 crore that are expected to generate 20,210 direct employment opportunities.

The proposals span chemicals, power, textiles & apparel, agro-processing, metal downstream and conglomerate projects.

The single largest commitment came from NLC India Ltd, which signed MoUs for a chemical project (Rs 2,000 crore) and a power project (Rs34,763.51 crore) that together account for more than two-thirds of the total investment and are projected to create 4,600 jobs. Other significant MoUs include Paradeep Phosphates Ltd (Rs4,750 crore, 1,000 jobs), L&T Ltd (Rs8,100 crore, 1,300 jobs), Solar Industries India Ltd (Rs500 crore), Alisha Torrent Closures (Rs530 crore), Greenply Industries (Rs350 crore), Shivaraj Spinning Mills (Rs200 crore, 5,000 jobs) and Bodycare (Rs250 crore, 4,000 jobs).

On the IIF side, commitments were received from JSW Dulux (Rs850 crore), an agro-processing company (Rs1,000 crore), Ellora PEB (₹500 crore) and Apar Industries (Rs100 crore).

“This conclave has helped us take a decisive step in diversifying Odisha’s economy from a metal-based to a chemical-based one,” the Chief Minister said. “Our goal is to establish a complete industrial ecosystem covering metals, metal downstream, chemicals, petrochemicals and plastics so that Odisha becomes a strong pillar of Atmanirbhar Bharat.”

Majhi also announced that Odisha will host the next edition of the event. After discussions with the Central Government and FICCI, both have given a green signal for Odisha Chem 2027, to be held in October 2027.

During the Mumbai visit, the Chief Minister held detailed interactions with representatives of POSCO India, JSW, L&T and companies from the United States and the European Union. He thanked Union Minister for Chemicals & Fertilizers J.P. Nadda for his support in facilitating these engagements.

Upon arrival at Bhubaneswar airport, the Chief Minister was received by a large gathering that included Fisheries & Animal Resources Development Minister Gokulananda Mallick, Cooperation, Handlooms & Textiles Minister Pradeep Bal Samant, Chief Whip Saroj Pradhan and several MLAs.

With the successful outcome of India Chem 2026 and the confirmation of Odisha Chem 2027, the state has further strengthened its position as a preferred investment destination in the chemical and petrochemical sector.
