Cuttack: A candidate appearing for Odisha Civil Services (OCS) preliminary examination candidate was allegedly caught on Sunday using unfair means at a centre in the CDA area of Cuttack city.
The candidate identified as Avinash Rout was found with a mobile phone concealed inside his undergarment and an earphone connected to it while appearing for the exam. Invigilators became suspicious when he repeatedly read questions aloud.
Preliminary investigation revealed that three accomplices — Soumyaranjan Sahu, Alex, and Rupesh — were assisting Rout from outside the examination centre. The trio, positioned in CDA and Badambadi areas, were reportedly dictating answers to him over the phone. Following his detention at the centre, Rout was handed over to Markatnagar Police, which then traced the calls from his mobile phone, leading to the arrest of all four individuals.
Rout is employed as a supervisor with an outsourcing agency at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. Further investigation is underway to ascertain whether similar malpractices occurred at other centres.
